Northern Ireland's manager Michael O'Neill has been crowned BBC's Coach of the Year after leading the country to their first major championship in 30 years.

The former Shamrock Rovers coach won a similar accolade last night at RTE's Sports Person of the Year awards in Dublin.

O'Neill took charge of Northern Ireland in 2011 after leading Rovers to the group stages of the Europa League and has had unprecedented success as they won six and drew three of their ten qualifying games to ensure a spot at Euro 2016 in france next summer.

O'Neill said: "To be here on this stage as the manager of my country and to be going to France is very special for me.

"I would like to congratulate all the other nominees, it is very humbling to get the award."
