Former Wimbledon champions Roger Federer and Rafa Nadal have both started their campaigns this year with straight sets wins.

Nadal defeated Brazilian Thomaz Belluci 6-4 6-2 6-3 while Federer got his campaign to win a record eighth men's singles title off to an emphatic start after cruising past the challenge of Bosnian Damir Dzumhur with a  6-1 6-3 6-4 victory in just over an hour.

Earlier, there were wins for Jo Wilfred Tsonga, Angelique Kerber and defending women's champion Petra Kvitova, who took just 36 minutes to reach the second round.

But the first big upset of this year's Championship has taken place on Court No.3 where last year's beaten finalist, Eugenie Bouchard has lost in straight sets against the unseeded Chinese player, Ying-Ying Duan.

The Canadian lost 7-6, 6-4 in a result that will drop her out of the World's Top 20.
