Aston Villa's disastrous season has had another set-back as two of their newest directors left the board.

David Bernstein and Mervyn King who joined the club's board in recent weeks have resigned with immediate affect saying their positions untenable.

They have both quit their roles at the freshly relegated club saying that there are issues that need to be addressed that are "fundamental and do not lend themselves to compromise".

"Unfortunately it had proved impossible to implement the agreed structure and my position has quickly become untenable," said Bernstein.

"The issues at the club are fundamental and the solutions are radical and do not lend themselves to compromise."
