Irish defender Sean McGinty has the ignominy of being the final player ever released by Alex Ferguson.
McGinty has had a troubled few years at Old Trafford, following a move from Charlton at 16 years old, when the daunting £1m price tag spoke of how highly rated the young defender was.
McGinty has been on loan at Carlisle, Oxford and Tranmere but has yet to make an impression – in a positive sense – at any of his temporary homes. Most recently, with Tranmere, his time at the club was cut short when he his loan was terminated for “a serious breach of club discipline”, as he failed to turn up to training.
McGinty was a part of the 2011 FA Youth Cup winning United side, but he has had a troubled first few years in the professional ranks, with a drink driving conviction (including driving the wrong way down a road at 4.30am) leading to an 18 month ban from the road.
McGinty was born in England, but has played for Ireland at underage levels. He made 7 appearances for the Manchester United reserves last season.
