The draw for the Europa League quarter finals has given all three English sides a chance of making it to the last four, albeit with some tricky ties to negotiate first.
Newcastle will face the toughest test, with Portuguese league leaders Benfica – undefeated in the league this season – standing in their way of the last four. In their favour Alan Pardew’s side have been drawn to play the second leg at home.
Spurs will perhaps be happiest of the three English sides, with Swiss side Basel their obstacle to the semi-final stage. Chelsea face a tricky second leg in Russia, against Rubin Kazan. Rubin are sixth in the Russian Premier League however, and on paper Rafa Benitez’s side should be hoping to have the job mostly completed before heading to Kazan.
Lazio and Fenerbache meet in what could be the tie of the round, with the Italians travelling to Istanbul first.
