Giovanni Trapattoni believes that the FAI should give him a new contract as Ireland manager.

The veteran Italian is under increasing pressure to hold onto his job after last Friday's defeat to Sweden left his side facing an uphill battle to qualify for next year's World Cup.

But, desite calls for his resignation, Trapattoni says that he feels that FAI chief excutive John Delaney should reward his efforts to rebuild the team with a new deal.

He said: "I'm sure the next manager will not change a lot now because we improve this, we move the team, and there is no other player because we discover the Irish players."
