Toulon have become the first club to be crowned European champions three times in a row.

They have beaten Clermont Auvergne on a scoreline of 24 points to 18 in the Champions Cup final.

Tries from Drew Mitchell and Mathieu Bastareaud as well as four penalties from Leigh Halfpenny have guided the Cote D'Azur side a six-point victory at Twickenham.

Wesley Fofana went over for the first try of the match after two Lopez penalties, but Bastareaud powered over Clermont's line on the stroke of half-time to give Toulon the lead at the break.

A second-half try from Nick Abendanon, converted by Lopez, narrowed the gap to a single point (19-18) during the second half, but Mitchell's try just over ten minutes later proved to be the decider.

It was a tense closing few minutes, with several scoring opportunities for Clermont that could have changed the tide of the match. But Toulon maintained their six point lead until the final whistle blew, and tonight will be celebrating their historic third European championship in a row.
