Tony Pulis has called on Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher to swap the television studio for the dugout, in the same way Gary Neville has.

While Neville's first game in charge didn't go to plan (a 2-0 loss at home to Lyon that saw his side crash out of the Champions League), it's still too early to judge his transition into management. 

There could be great success ahead of him if his skills in analysing the game can translate across, but Tony Pulis also thinks that his former colleague Jamie Carragher would make a great manager. 

Speaking to the BBC, Pulis said that he was delighted for Gary Neville, but that he rang Carragher immediately after hearing the news to tell him "make sure you don't wait too long for yourself to make the move, because I really, really want younger players who have been very good players and great professionals at that top level to have a crack at it".

"Some of them will be good, some of them will find it difficult, some of them won't enjoy it, but have a crack at it and let's get the British coaches through". 

He added that he was worried to see so many of the best British players of the last generation, such as Neville, Carragher and Jamie Redknapp bypass being managers and actually going into the media". 

"You worry about players now who finish football," he continued, "with so much money, they're nice and comfortable, do they need all the hassle we get, do they need all the problems that we get, can they have just a great life being involved in football on the media side?".
