Since Liverpool swept Manchester United aside at Old Trafford on Sunday, most of the focus has been centered on David Moyes and his players.

But the win was also a landmark one for Liverpool who had not won at the Theatre of Dreams since 2009, the last time they were in a title race.

It also cements their place as viable Premier League title contenders given the sheer ease with which they dealt with United.

The Times' Tony Barrett was shocked by the scale of Liverpool's dominance when he spoke to Joe tonight.

"Liverpool didn't actually play at their peak. It wasn't the type of commanding, swashbuckling performance that you saw against Arsenal or against Everton or Tottenham. It was more Liverpool just doing their job, going about their business quietly and confidently but not having to play at their peak," said Barrett.

Barrett feels Manchester City and Chelsea are still favourites for the title, but is encouraged by the way in which Liverpool are peaking at a crucial time in the season.

"Liverpool have momentum, form, players who are going into games scoring goals. They now have a defence which is looking more cohesive than it has at any other time during the season," said Barrett who explained that Brendan Rodgers had had time to work on the defence during recent weeks.

After the Man United match, Steven Gerrard said Rodgers is the best man-manager he has ever worked under and Barrett believes the positive relationship between manager and captain has been an important cornerstone of Liverpool's recent success.

"Steven Gerrard admires Rodgers and I think it helps that there isn't a huge age gap. They're of the same generation and see football in a similar way. They want similar things on the pitch and there has been a great coming together there," said Barrett who can see Gerrard's happiness through his body language and also added that he now has players around him who bring the best out of him.

Barrett also touched on David Moyes' signings and explained why the Marouane Fellaini purchase could be the one that brings him down.
