Thomas Barr has been named as the Irish Athlete of the Year at the annual GloHealth National Athletics Awards.
After setting a new Irish 400m hurdles record in Rome and his victory at the World University Games, Waterford native Barr was chosen ahead of Mark English and Rob Heffernan.

English was named as the Under-23 Athlete of the Year, while Heffernan won the Endurace Athlete award.
In May, Barr claimed a podium place at a Diamond League meeting in Doha, was also named European Athlete of the Month in April.
