Tipp football star Colin O'Riordan has confirmed he is going take part in the AFL trials in Melbourne this October.

O'Riordan who also featured for the county's Under-21 hurlers this season starred as Tipp reached the under-21 All Ireland football final.

The 19-year-old told the Irish Independent it was an opportunity he couldn't pass up.

"It's a once in a lifetime opportunity and I couldn't say no to doing something that I love for a living. I would absolutely jump at the chance," he said.

He will be joined at the trials by Kilkenny underage star Daragh Joyce. He developed his footballing skills at Good Counsel secondary school in New Ross.
