Patrick Reed leads the WGC-Cadillac Championship by two shots heading into the final day, but Tiger Woods was the man grabbing headlines on day three.
Woods had been fading into the distance by the end of Friday’s round but a 66 yesterday, taking advantage of much improved weather conditions, has put the 14 time major champion into fourth, just three shots off the leader.
Woods has won this event 7 times previously but poor recent form and injury had meant his uninspiring early form raised few eyebrows. A fine putting performance yesterday was the key to his return to contention, hitting 8 birdies on a course that gave up few pars on Friday.
Reed scored 69 yesterday to move to four-under, two ahead of Hunter Mahan and Jason Dufner.
Rory McIlroy and Graeme McDowell both began yesterday’s round just 1 off the lead but rounds of three-over and one-over respectively saw the two drop back. McDowell is now 5 off the lead, while McIlroy is 7 back, tied for 19th place.
