It is a record stood for 35 years, but last night Wayne Rooney became England's leading goalscorer of all time, scoring in his sides 2-0 win over Switzerland.

The Manchester United striker scored his 50th senior international goal last night, to beat the record of Bobby Charlton who scored his 49th and final goal in May 1970.

After the game, Rooney was presented with a "Rooney 50" jersey in the dressing room by manager Roy Hodgson and thanked his team mates for  helping him reach the landmark.
