U.S Open Day 1

The U.S. Open has once again shocked us all. Predictions of top players coming out strong prove to be inconclusive as the first round came to a close. The usual top players were nowhere near the top of the scoreboard and new names surfaced. Conditions of the course were soft due to heavy rain the night before but temperatures reached a sweltering 90 degrees.

Martin Kaymer set a USGA record for Pinehurst No. 2 with 5 under 65. Kevin Na shot a 68 and tied with Graeme McDowell, Brendon de Jonge and Fran Quinn for second.

Nearly 12 players shot a 69 and this also set a USGA record for lowest scores in a U.S. Open championship. Among these players were: Jordan Spieth, Matt Kuchar, Dustin Johnson and Henrik Stenson.

Both Rory McIlroy and Adam Scott shot 1 over par and Phil Mickelson shot an even-par 70.

U.S. Open Day 2

The second round got underway at Pinehurst with the German, Martin Kaymer still in the lead. He shot a bogey-free 32 on Pinehurst's back nine for the opening of the second round and remains 5 under par. The top players fighting for the lead include: Brendon de Jonge, Kevin Na, Graeme McDowell and Dustin Johnson.

Adam Scott, Lucas Glover and Brooks Koepka were 3 under par coming out of the back nine holes of the second round.
