The UFC's highly anticipated New York card this November may have gotten its first fight if rumours are to be believed.

Reports emerging today say that former welterweight competitor Thiago Alves will make the drop to lightweight to take on New York native, Al Iaquinta.

The bout was first reported by Combatealthough there has been no official confirmation from Dana White or the UFC.

Madison Square Garden will host the event on November 12 and will be the first MMA event held in the city since it was legalised back in March

Iaquinta has won his last four fights and seven of his previous eight. His last defeat came against Michael Chiesa in "TUF 15" final back in 2012. Of his last four wins, three have been stoppages, with his last victory coming against Jorge Masvidal via split decision.

He has since struggled with injury but is hoping to perform against a home crowd and sees UFC 205 as the perfect opportunity to fulfill this ambition.

Alves, meanwhile, hasn't fought since his defeat to Carlos Condit last in May 2015 at UFC Fight Night 67.

The UFC's next event comes this Saturday at UFC 203 where Phil Brooks (otherwise known as CM Punk) makes his UFC debut against Mickey Gall.
