The new film documenting the next stage in the musical and romantic journey of Glenn Hansard and Marketa Irglova’s lives, The Swell Season was not Irglova’s idea.

The film recounts the lives of the two singers after their Oscar win for Once as they embark on a tour of the United States.

One of the directors of the film Nick August Perna said he wasn’t sure Irlglova would have agreed to the film if they approached her first. She knew however that Glen loved film and wanted to support his venture, he tells The Green Room.

The relationship breaks down during the making of the film, making it not just a tour film but a poignant reflection of an unravelling love affair.
