EUROPEAN GAMES

After Brendan Irvine's success yesterday, three more Irish boxers will be chasing medals today in Azerbaijan.

Sean McComb, Dean Walsh and Adam Nolan are all due back into the ring for their quarter-finals - knowing that a victory will gurantee that they return home from Baku with at least a bronze.

McComb will be the first of the trio in action when he fights Yasin Yilmaz of Turkey in their Lightweight contest shortly after 10am while Walsh is also slated to compete during the morning session in the men's Light Welterweight division.

Later this evening, Adam Nolan will take-on Great Britain's Josh Kelly in the men's Welterweight quarter-finals.

Chloe Magee has won her first match in Group F of the womens badminton singles, comfortably seeing off her Latvian opponent. 

Mona McSharry has reached the semi finals of the womens 50-metre breaststroke, 

However, McSharry, Rachel Bethel and Iseult Hayes missed out on semi final spots in the womens 100-metre freestyle. 

GAA

The GAA community is in mourning today following the passing of legendary Tipperary hurler, Jimmy Doyle.

The six-time All Ireland winner is widely acknowledged as one of hurling's all-time greats.

The Thurles Sarsfields clubman was included in both the Hurling Team of the Century in 1984 and the Hurling Team of the Millennium in 2000.

SOCCER

The United States have set up a Women's World Cup quarter final with China, after Jan Ellis's side beat Colombia 2-0 in Edmonton. 

England's 2-1 win over Norway saw them progress to a last-eight meeting with hosts, Canada. 

HORSE RACING

Ballinrobe hosts a seven-race card this evening with the first off at 5.40pm.
