Kerry legend Maurice Fitzgerald could be joining the Kerry senior backroom team, according to reports.

The Irish Examiner writes that the two-time All-Ireland winner could be in line to replace Diarmuid Murphy as a selector next year.

Fitzgerald guided his club St Mary's to an All-Ireland intermediate title earlier in the year, just one year after hanging up his boots at 46. He's also coaching the Coláiste na Sceilge’s senior colleges team this season.

Other candidates linked with the job are Stephen Stack and Noel Kennelly.

Fitzgerald would be an exceptional addition to the Kerry unit. In addition to his two Celtic Crosses from 1997 and 2000, Fitzgerald is the first Kerryman in history to win two All Stars before winning his first All-Ireland.

And who could forget this belter of a sideline free against Dublin in 2001.
