Newcastle defender Ryan Taylor has criticised the club for the way they told him that he was being released.

Both he and Jonas Gutierrez were told over the phone by manager John Carver that they were not going to be offered new deals.

Taylor told Sky Sports News, he is disappointed, but does not blame the current interim manager for delivering the news.

"He was made to do it. He obviously was upset in doing it because I spoke to him and he seemed upset about telling two good pros who'd been here a long time to come to an end and I can't really blame John because he's under instructions on what to do," said Taylor.

Gutierrez scored the second goal as Newcastle beat West Ham to secure survival, months after his return from a spell on the sidelines recovering from cancer.

Meanwhile, Patrick Viera is in the running to become the next Newcastle boss.

The former Arsenal midfielder is said to be on a managerial shortlist at St. James' Park that also includes Steve McLaren.
