As World Cup hosts, tonight's curtain raiser is more than just a game for Brazil.

Carrying the weight of a hugely populous nation on their shoulders, the Selecao know a win will be imperative.

And at least they can take inspiration from their Confederations Cup win in 2013 where their high pressing approach helped power Luiz Felipe Scolari's team to the trophy.

During that tournament, Neymar and Oscar had the highest foul count of any other players and expect both players to lead from the front tonight, giving away tactical fouls high up the field to prevent Croatia from building a rhythm.

Brazil are likely to line out in a 4-2-3-1 with Fred at centre-forward creating the space for Neymar to cut in from the left, while Hulk will do the same from the right, which means the full-backs will be given licence to press forward along the touchline.

Oscar's ability to drop deep means Brazil can also shift into something close to a 4-3-3 and be sure that Brazil will try to score early as was their gameplan last summer.

How Croatia attempt to combat this will be fascinating, especially with centre-forward Mario Mandzukic suspended for tonight's opening game.

But it is the midfield battle which is the most interesting aspect. Recently, manager Niko Kovac has fielded a very attacking central trio of Mateo Kovacic, Luka Modric and Ivan Rakitic.

While all are great playmaking midfielders, it does leave the defence without protection and with Brazil piling pressure high up the field, Kovac could be tempted to alter the team's shape and include a more genuine holder in midfield.

Also the identity of Mandzukic's replacement will be of interest with Nikica Jelavic, Eduardo and Ivica Olic all in contention and bringing different assets to the role.

We looked ahead to that first game on Team 33:
