Swamp Fox was the winner of the big race on the 2016 Galway Races opening day.

The 16/1  beat Ted Veale into second place in the Connacht Hotel Handicap. 

The Novice Hurdle saw odds on Muthaza score a comfortable win for trainer Willie Mullins and jockey Ruby Walsh.

The Joseph O'Brien trained Motherland was the winner of the Eventus Handicap, coming home a 2/1 favourite.

The final race of the evening in Ballybrit was the McGettigan's Flat Race, which was won by 8/1 chance Electric Concorde for trainer Jim Culloty.
