The proposed European Super League continues to receive strong opposition from fans and pundits alike, as the Football Supporters Federation have come out in opposition of the league.

Six Premier League teams, as well as three each from Spain and Italy have come together to announce their plans to form a breakaway self-titled Super League of 20 teams, to begin "as soon as possible"

Speaking to Sky News on Monday morning, Chair of the Football Supporters Federation, Malcolm Clarke expressed the federation's disappointment with the clubs that are set to join the league.

"We are totally opposed to it," Clarke said. "I haven't yet spoken to any fans since the news broke who are in favour of it.

"The supporters organisations at the so-called 'big clubs' have all come out against it. As far as I can see, everybody who cares about the tradition of English football is against this."

Clarke questioned why the so-called 'Big Six' were the ones driving for this new league, as

"You talk about the 'big six'; if you look at this morning's Premier League table, the teams in third and fourth place aren't part of it, but the team in ninth place is," Clarke said.

"That sums it up really. Our tradition is that you get into competitions and things on the basis of success on the field, not the size of the club or whether you are foreign-owned."

Not the only supporters association to voice opposition

The Football Supporters Federation join the individual clubs' supporters' organisations, such as the the Manchester United Supporters' Trust, who issued a statement  involvement in a statement on Sunday night.

"These proposals are completely unacceptable and will shock Manchester United fans, as well as those of many other clubs," the statement said.

"A 'Super League' based on a closed shop of self-selected wealthy clubs goes against everything football, and Manchester United, should stand for.

"To bring forward these proposals without any fan consultation, and in the midst of a global pandemic when people should be pulling together not serving their own selfish interests, just adds insult to injury."
