"It's amazing! I was here in 2005 when the Seahawks last went to the Superbowl and partially because of the social media and having Twitter and Facebook available, the buzz around here is like nothing I've seen in the 11 years I've lived in Seattle. It's through the roof!"

Tonight we got the inside track from Kevin Shockey of Seattle sports radio station KJR as the Seattle Seahawks' Superbowl date with destiny against Peyton Manning's Denver Broncos at New York's Met Life Stadium.

And judging from Shockey's description of the anticipation in the North-West city, the Seahawks' famous fans are preparing to break decibel records.

To add to their excitement, this Seattle Seahawks team and their incredible defence make them a more formidable unit than the 2005 team.

"The team in 2005 was very different. They certainly weren't as loud and weren't as popular and known as the guys are now in 2014. It was a very different style team," said Shockey.

"A lot of times, you can feel a little more confident in the defence than you do in the offence. The 2005 team was very much on the offence whereas the defence in 2014 is as good as we have ever seen in Seattle. If you just want to look at the Legion of Boom which are the defensive backs, two safeties and the corner backs, it's as good as we've ever seen. It's about as good as you've seen in the NFL. You have two lockdown All-Pros which is the highest honour individually that you can get as an NFL player in Earl Thomas and Richard Sherman. And the other guys are no slouches."

Shockey also explained how Pete Carroll's holistic approach has paid dividends for the team by adding an element of fun and enjoyment to the locker room and "cultivates their indiviudal personalities."

He also characterized wide receiver Percy Harvin as a potential game-winner and also praised the ownership of Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen.
