It's a World Cup year and that always plays a part in the behaviour of players and transfer dealings.

But perhaps for Uruguay more so than Luis Suarez, it is vital that the striker has a good season.

The two-time World Champions are not guaranteed a place at the 2014 World Cup but are currently well placed to strike for at least a playoff spot.

Luis Suarez has been absolutely vital to the recent resurgence and it was his double that helped Uruguay to a 2 - 1 over Peru on Friday.

Last night, BBC South American football expert Tim Vickery was on the line to speak to Joe about the need for Suarez to perform at optimal level for Liverpool this season because he is fundamental to Uruguay's plans.

"He was the difference between Uruguay and Peru. The good news for Liverpool supporters is that Luis Suarez has kept himself in good nick because his country needs him.  He so important to the national team and has become the leading scorer in their history."

Tim also spoke about Argentina and Colombia's progress in the South American qualifying table as both sides are on the verge of booking a place in Brazil.
