Luis Suarez has sent out mixed messages about his desire to remain a Liverpool player, and has almost certainly grabbed the attention of Europe’s top clubs by admitting he would be open to offers.

The Liverpool striker was speaking in an interview in Uruguay, while on international duty, and said that he is “very happy at Liverpool, but you never know in football.”

The Uruguayan went on to say if clubs “with more prospects of competing in international club competition games” were to make an offer for him, “they are welcome.”

It is not the first time that Suarez has admitted he would be willing to listen to offers, having last month said he would listen to an offer from Bayern Munich, even if he was happy at Liverpool, but his openness to an offer does not mean he is necessarily looking to leave.

The interview, quotes from which were reported by The Liverpool Echo, veers quickly from prasise for Liverpool and his enthusiasm regarding the future of the club, to an open invitation for clubs with better immediate prospects to take him away from Anfield.

"I am very happy at Liverpool but you never know in football.

"A player’s ambition is always there, the ambition of wanting to play in elite teams is always there.

“I’m in a world-class team, an elite team like Liverpool. We have to realise we have a new manager who is imposing a philosophy and a way of playing that the players are adapting to as best we can. We hope that it will bear fruit next year.

“If another team comes around with more prospects of competing in international club competition games, which is willing to have me, they are welcome.

“We would talk to the club, we would see if I want to go, if I don’t want to go.

"I'm having a nice time because the club is growing and I feel I'm helping personally.

"I do not know if I'm in the best form but I feel like it's my fate to score and I have to take advantage."

Bayern Munich, Manchester City and Juventus have all shown strong interest in signing Suarez in the past, however Liverpool have always strongly resisted any attempts to entice their most valuable player away from Anfield. Suarez is under contract until 2017, having renewed his deal in August of last year. In the past Liverpool have made it clear they would refuse all but the most outlandish of bids for the player, who now has 29 goals in 40 games this season.

Brendan Rodgers has previously stated his belief that even if Liverpool fail to qualify for the Champions League Suarez will remain at the club. The Liverpool manager met with Suarez’s agent, Pere Guardiola (brother of next Bayern Munich manager, Pep) recently and came away from the meeting convinced his striker would be staying at the club.

Following the meeting with Pere Guardiola Rodgers said to The Guardian, "There is no getting away from it, Luis has been brilliant this year but I haven't seen anything different that would make me feel he wouldn't be here. I had a great conversation with his agent a couple of weeks ago. He came in and rolled it out that Luis was so happy here and was keen over the next couple of years for the club to progress.”

Suarez was quoted last month saying he would be open to listening to offers from a club such as Bayern, however that fact did not mean he was hoping for a mvoe away from Liverpool. "If Bayern Munich makes an offer I would certainly be willing to listen and think about it.

"It doesn't mean I will definitely leave, it just means that I will not automatically reject other clubs."
