Former Ireland scrum-half Peter Stringer is to continue playing for Bath next season.

The 35-year-old has been on-loan with the Premiership side this season after agreeing a short-term switch away from his native Munster. But, after working his way into the Bath first team, the Corkman has now agreed a new extension that will keep him at the Rec up until the summer of 2014.

The decision means that the 98 times capped Irish international will not be returning to Munster at the end of the season and he says that he still feels as though he has "a lot to give" as a player. Speaking of his decision, Stringer said: "I still feel like I have a lot to give on the rugby field, and really wanted to keep on playing, so was happy to agree a new contract here. I've really enjoyed my time with Bath so far, and am looking forward to next season already."

Bath originally signed Stringer as injury cover for Michael Claassens, but has since gone on to make the starting number 9 shirt his own, which convinced the club to offer him a new deal. Bath Head Coach, Gary Gold, added: "Strings has been fantastic for us in the short time he has been here so far, so we're really pleased he's agreed to stay here for next season rather than going back to Ireland. He is the consummate professional in everything he does, both on and off the field, and that sets a great example for the entire squad."
