Former Ireland international Steven Reid can't understand why Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has decided to rest Simone Mignolet with the international break around the corner.

The Belgian is also unlikely to get any game time next week as Chelsea's Thibaut Coutois is the number one keeper for his country.

Loris Karius started in Mignolet's place against Arsenal on Sunday with the Belgian dropping out of the match-day squad altogether.

Speaking to Nathan Murphy on Off the Ball ahead of the clash between Liverpool and Arsenal at Anfield, Reid said: "The big change today is Mignelot coming out of the side and being left out completely.

"From a player's point of view at this stage of the season, it's really early, it's all about getting that relationship between your back four and your goalkeeper - getting those solid foundations in place, getting the confidence going. He got off to a pretty decent start in the season, Mignelot, looked like he was going to be the number one all season.

"It's an absolutely bizarre decision to come out and say you're resting him four games into the season. It's a really strange decision especially just coming up to the international break."
