Aston Villa manager Steve Bruce has spoken about the "deep disappointment" felt by Neil Taylor after his horror tackle on Ireland captain Seamus Coleman.

Coleman sustained a horrific double fracture to his right leg after Taylor lunged at him in the second half of Ireland's World Cup qualifier against Wales last Friday.

Speaking to BBC WM 95.6, Taylor's club manager Steve Bruce said: "He's deeply disappointed, no one wants to see a fellow professional badly injured.

"I've only been working with him for a month and he's desperately sorry for what's happened. All our thoughts at Villa are with Seamus. Unfortunately these things happen - you get caught up in the heat of the battle and the pace of the game is ferocious, especially at international level."

FIFA have opened disciplinary proceedings against Taylor for the tackle which left Coleman requiring surgery and Bruce went on to describe such proceedings as "harsh".
