Stephen Hunt says he had the opportunity to move to the Indian Super League but felt it wasn't the right move for now.

The former Ireland winger signed for League One promotion chasers Coventry on Friday and revealed that many options had come up, including a move to India's relatively new league which has seen a host of European veterans like Alessandro Del Piero and Freddy Ljungberg have a spell there.

"I turned down India because I didn't want to be too far from home," said the 34-year-old, who also revealed that moves to MK Dons and Cardiff City also did not transpire.

"I had an opportunity to go play there for three months. There's a few players that went to India. It would have been a different culture. Probably looking at it now, I didn't think I'd be out of work that long. I should have maybe taken it [because] I would have been back by now but then again I would have missed family time as well. If the same opportunity had to come next year and I was in the same position, then I might take it."

Hunt also spoke about playing with ex-England midfielder Joe Cole, who is plying trade at Coventry.
