The best Brazilian footballer name I have seen so far has to be Pintinho. Not so much because of the name itself, but more so how it dovetails nicely with his post-playing career.

A former Brazil international back in the late 70s, he now makes a living pouring pints at his small bar in Seville, where the walls are adorned with pictures and memorabilia from his playing career.

It just goes to show that at one time Brazilian footballers had the best names in football. From Socrates and Zico to Ronaldo and Rivaldo, the names alone brought excitement.

The 2014 edition is less brilliant in that regard with names such as Bernard and Fred making it into the 23-man panel on home soil.

And it's Fred that was meant to be a key man in this Brazil side, having impressed at the Confederations Cup.

The centre-forward's job appears to involve making space for Neymar primarily, as well as poaching a few goals himself.

Yet his performances left a lot to be desired against Croatia and Mexico, offering little in the way of movement, power or penetration. Indeed during one passage of play as Brazil tried to work their way forwards against Mexico, Fred could be seen standing stock still watching the build up peter out without so much as making a decoy run.

But apart from "winning" that non-penalty against Croatia, do the stats show any contribution from the former Lyon striker?

In actual fact he has a 100 per cent shot accuracy rate so far...that's until you note that statistic is based on one shot across two games as this Squawka graphic shows:

He has also failed to link up with those around him with Squawka stats showing that he has misplaced 40 per cent of his passes so far in the tournament, also failing to create a single chance.

Fred's passing against Mexico leaves a lot to be desired in this Squawka graphic

In fairness, the service to him has not been stellar. But the lack of movement and guile is still apparent and it must be worrying for Brazil that should he be dropped, the next in line is probably going to be Jo which hardly sets hearts aflutter.
