Tim Sherwood has made much in recent weeks of his side’s lack of character but this afternoon his Spurs team served up the perfect riposte to their manager’s public scolding.

Down 2-0 at home to Southampton within half an hour, Spurs looked sunk until Christian Eriksen got one goal back with a close rage finish in the 31st minute.

Jay Rodriguez had put the Saints ahead after 19 minutes and Adam Lallana added a second just a few minutes later.
Eriksen’s goal revitalised Tottenham and it was the Danish international who scored again early in the second half to level the game up.

Spurs pressed and threatened for most of the second half but it wasn’t until Gylfi Sigurdsson scored with a low shot from outside the area, from an Eriksen knock down, in the 92nd minute that the pressure finally paid off.

The win lifts Spurs back to fifth in the table, and keeps alive their slim hopes of catching fourth placed Arsenal. Southampton remain ninth.
