Totenham and Manchester United played out an end to end 2-2 draw at White Hart Lane in today’s early kick off. Wayne Rooney was the star man for United, scoring twice, but Totenham’s Sandro stole the show with a stunning strike in the second half.
Kyle Walker opened the scoring as he snuck the ball under the United wall from a free kick on the edge of the box. The ball went close to the centre of David De Gea’s goal but, unsighted as he was, the United keeper couldn’t adjust his footing in time to get down to the ball.
Spurs dominated the game for the opening 20 minutes but United slowly worked their way back into the game as the half wore on. The effort was rewarded as Rooney capitalised on some appalling defending from walker, who swung aimlessly at the ball in his own box and left Wayne Rooney just needing to poke the ball past Hugo Lloris.
Spurs hit the front again after the break, with Sandro scoring a fantastic long range strike that swerved into the top corner and left De Gea with little other option than to admire the Brazilian’s work from his stationary position in the United goal.
The lead barely lasted five minutes before Danny Welbeck chased a defence splitting pass from Wayne Rooney and was tripped by the onrushing Lloris. Rooney stepped up to take the resulting spot kick and sent it down the middle to level the game at 2-2.
Tottenham looked the more likely to take 3 points as the final minutes ticked by but ultimately the result will leave both managers feeling underwhelmed. United lose more ground on title rivals, while Andre Villas Boas will wonder on the late chances his side had to take the win and provide him with some much needed relief from the pressure imposed by a succession of poor results.
