Spain have appointed Julen Lopetegui as the man to replace Vincente del Bosque and to lead them into the 2018 World Cup in Russia.

The former Porto manager has also played a big role in Spain's underage development, holding coaching positions with the U17, U19, U20 and U21 national teams.

He led Spain to the 2012 European U19 Championship in Estonia and repeated the feat the following year with the U21 side for the Championships in Switzerland.

The 49-year-old was dismissed by Porto for going three games without a victory and takes over from the most successful manager the international side has ever seen.

Vincente del Bosque resigned after Spain were knocked out of the European Championships at the hands of Italy in June.

During his time as manager he won the 2008 European Championship and defended it in 2012, before victory in the World Cup in 2010. He oversaw a golden generation of players including Xavi, Andres Iniesta and Sergio Ramos.

Lopetegui will be presented today at 18:30 local time in La Ciudad del Fútbol.
