Spain manager Vicente del Bosque has named a 25-man preliminary squad ahead of Euro 2016.

Premier League players Diego Costa, Juan Mata and Santi Cazorla are among the notable omissions from the team. Fernando Torres, who scored in the Euro 2008 and Euro 2012 finals also failed to make the grade.

Valencia striker Paco Alcacer also misses out. The 22-year-old was Spain's leading goalscorer in Euro 2016 qualification where he scored five goals. Bayern Munich midfielder Javi Martinez is also a high-profile absentee from the list.

There are five Premier League-based players in the 25-man list. Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea has been joined by the Chelsea trio of Cesar Azpilicueta, Cesc Fabregas and Pedro. Manchester City's David Silva has also been named.

Athletic Bilbao's Aritz Aduriz has also been named in the squad. The 35-year-old returned to the Spain team in March, six years after his only cap for the country. Aduriz scored 35 goals this season for club and country.

Spain are looking to become the first team to win the European Championships three times in a row. They begin the defence of their campaign against Czech Republic in Toulouse on June 13th.
