Southampton climbed out of the relegation zone with a 2 - 0 victory over Newcastle.

Nigel Adkins' side took the lead midway through the first half when Uruguayan winger Gaston Ramirez played in captain Adam Lallana who slotted in.

And Ramirez went from provider to goalscorer on the hour mark on the rebound to seal a vital victory for the club.

Newcastle, struggling with injuries, failed to provide a meaningful challenge as their poor run continued.
