There was no fairytale victory for Sole Power today at Royal Ascot.

Eddie Lynam's stable star was targetting a third consecutive victory in the King's Stand Stakes today and was sent off as the 5/2 favourite.

But the 8-year-old could only finish in fifth place behind 20/1 shot Goldream who won by a short head from Medicean Man after a thrilling finish to Group One contest.

There was better news for the Irish raiders in the feature of the opening day as the Aidan O'Brien trained Gleneagles confirmed his status as the odds-on favourite to claim the St James's Palace Stakes, adding to his English and Irish 2000 Guineas wins.

Earlier, Solow captured the Queen Anne Stakes - the opening race of this year's festival, while the Group 2 Coventry Stakes went to 6/1 chance Buratino.
