Munster's worst fears have been confirmed with the news that RG Snyman has suffered another cruciate ligament injury.

The South African lock - who has only just returned from an ACL - limped off in the second half of yesterday's United Rugby Championship win over Scarlets.

He lasted only nine minutes following his introduction before being withdrawn after appearing to land awkwardly.

After the game, head coach Johann Van Graan said they were 'pretty worried' with the initial indications from his injury.

A Munster statement released this afternoon confirmed he re-ruptured the cruciate ligament.

"It has been confirmed that RG Snyman sustained a re-rupture of his cruciate ligament in Sunday’s United Rugby Championship win against Scarlets.

"The 26-year-old lock featured off the bench in Parc y Scarlets and nine minutes later was forced off after rupturing his anterior cruciate ligament (ACL).

"The World Cup-winning Springbok will meet with the specialist next to discuss surgery and management."

Head Coach Johann van Graan said everyone at the club feels for the Snyman, who now faces another extended period out of the game after missing well over a year of action.

“We are all hugely disappointed for RG," Van Graan said.

“After doing everything that was asked of him and working so hard to get back into great shape everyone feels for him right now.

“While this is a setback, we know RG is young and resilient given everything he has gone through in the last year so there is a strong sense of perspective here.

“We have seen what other world-class players have done in this position before and they have come back to reach the successful heights of their careers and I would expect no different for someone of RG’s class and standing.”

Munster won the game at Parc Y Scarlets by 43 points to 13.

They sit top of the URC standings with three bonus-point wins in a row.
