Sligo Rovers have signed West Ham United striker Sean Maguire on loan until the end of July.

19 year old Maguire spent much of last year at Waterford United, playing 24 times in 2013 for the Blues and scoring 13 goals.

Maguire earned a spot on the bench during West Ham’s recent FA Cup match against Nottingham Forest.

Maguire said: “I’m very happy to be coming to the biggest club in Ireland. Everybody has been so welcoming to me since I have arrived and you can see the type of club it is already.

“Ian Baraclough has done an amazing job at Sligo Rovers. I think he is a brilliant manager and I’m here to play games and score goals.

“I know I won’t walk into the team. I have to work hard and impress and make a big impact in the months I’m here. I want to prove what I can do.

“All I want is competitive games and to do well for myself and Sligo Rovers. I know the League of Ireland and I’ve missed it a lot to be honest. When I go back to West Ham I want to return knowing I’ve scored a lot of goals and shown what I can do.”

Sligo Rovers manager Ian Baraclough said: “I feel it’s a really good signing for us. It is more competition in the attacking roles. Danny North has come back raring to go but he can’t take all of the burden. I became aware of Sean when he was with Waterford.

“I’ve spoken to West Ham’s assistant manager Neil McDonald and first-team coach Ian Hendon - they feel he has matured as a player since he moved to the club and this loan switch now is ideal for his development.

“Sean is excited to be here and the chance to show what he can do. I feel this football club has similar values to the club he is currently at and the style of play and it will suit Sean.

“The deal is until the end of July and the staff at West Ham are keen for Sean to come here and play first-team football as much as he can.”
