Sligo successfully negotiated a tricky away day at Dalymount last night, and their 2-0 win puts them 5 points off league leaders St. Pat’s, who dropped two points at Limerick. The Saints drew 0-0 at Thomond park and are now 5 ahead of the reigning champions and, more worryingly, just 3 ahead of Dundalk who have a game in hand.

Gavin Peers opened the scoring for the champions against Owen Heary’s Bohs side, with the centre half striking after 16 minutes.  Aaron Greene added a second goal in the second half to wrap up the win.

St. Pat’s came close to taking the three points in Limerick as a Conan Byrne shot struck the post in injury time, but the Saints were to return to the capital frustrated and knowing they could be in a neck and neck title race by this evening if Dundalk can take a win over Drogheda in the Louth derby at Oriel Park.

Elsewhere in the league, Shamrock Rovers enjoyed a second successive 2-1 win, this time over Cork City. Gary McCabe scored both goals for the home side.
