Tottenham manager Tim Sherwood believes Jermain Defoe should be an automatic choice for England's squad for the World Cup in Brazil.

The striker will leave the club to join Major League Soccer side Toronto FC at the end of February.

But Sherwood says the fact that he is moving away from the Premier League should not be held against him.

"He is one of the top strikers the Premier League has ever seen. His goalscoring record for both club and country is second to none and long may that continue. I still see him having a future for England in the World Cup in the summer," said Sherwood.
