After just two seasons back in the League of Ireland Premier Division Shelbourne return to the league’s second tier, retracing a journey they made 7 years ago – albeit the drop then was brought about by off the field matters.

A 1-0 win for Bray against Bohs at Dalymount ensures a minimum of a play-off spot for the Wicklow side, and put a six point gap between Shelbourne and safety with just one game to go.

Kieran Marty Waters was the hero for Bray, scoring with 15 minutes remaining. The win means the Seagulls can now escape the relegation picture altogether in their final game as they sit level on 27 points with UCD and just 2 behind Bohs, with one of the three set to contest a playoff against the winners of the First Division playoff.

Mervue took the early advantage in that playoff, winning 1-0 at home last night against Longford.

Derry City made a  good attempt at putting a dampener on celebrations at Richmond Park last night, going 1-0 up against newly crowned champions St. Pat’s, until Anthony Flood levelled the game in the final 10 minutes with a long range strike. The Saints were awarded the league Airtricity League trophy after the game, while Derry are now 1 point ahead of Shamrock Rovers in the battle for fourth place and the, possible, final European spot.

Rovers kept up their chase of Derry with a 4-1 win over UCD at Belfield. Goals from Shane Robinson, Thomas Stewart and two from Gary McCabe saw the Hoops ease to victory against the Students.

Dundalk have almost secured second spot following their 4-0 win over Cork City last night. Goals from Richie Towell, Pat Hoban, John Dillon and an own goal from John Kavanagh settled matters at Oriel Park.
