Maria Sharapova will aim to go one better than last year when she starts her Australian Open tennis campaign later.

The second seed, who was beaten in the final 12 months ago, faces fellow Russian Olga Puchkova in the first round in Melbourne.

Sharapova has had little match practice after pulling out of the Brisbane international with a collarbone injury.

But she says that will not affect her.
