Shane Lowry’s performance at Chambers Bay this weekend has seen the Clara man’s stock rise in the eyes of the golfing world.

This was reflected with today’s release of the golf world rankings and saw him move up 12 places, from 57 to 45 in the world.

The Offaly native enjoyed his joint best finish in a major tournament, finishing on level par alongside Rory McIlroy.

The move isn’t just a symbolic gesture of his achievement, it also earns him a temporary PGA tour card for the remainder of the season.

"I feel like I played the golf to really have a chance to win at the end," Lowry said.

"I missed a couple of short putts for par that you can't be doing on days like this.

"I just didn't really do enough. If I holed a few more putts I would have had a chance coming in on the last few.

"But it was a good week for me. I'm back inside the top 50 in the world and a few goals have been reached."

Meanwhile, after failing to make the cut, former world number one, Tiger Woods, drops to 205 in the rankings.

Woods started the year as world number 32, but posting scores of 85, 80 and 76 over the last month, coupled with a persistent back injury has seen an unprecedented loss of form.
