Shane Lowry's quest to play in the Ryder Cup begins this week with another team event in Malaysia.

Lowry is part of Darren Clarke's Europe team that faces an Asian team captained by Jeev Milka Singh on the outskirts of Kuala Lumpur this week. It is the Offaly native's first team event as a professional and he will be looking to impress Clarke ahead of September's Ryder Cup in Minnesota.

The 28-year-old spoke to Nick Dye ahead of the event about how he will cope with being teammates with players who are regularly his rivals. "We play around the World together, we spend time in Player Lounges together and going for dinner together, so the group of lads that are here this week are a great group and we are having a good laugh so far."

Lowry had an extended Christmas break and the event in Malaysia is his first of the year. He is looking to try and match the heroics of last year. "I'd like to win again at some stage this year. I'm going to be in all the Majors and all the big tournaments so hopefully I can win a big one."

The Clara star was paired with England's Andy Sullivan overnight for the first practice round at the Glenmarie Golf and Country Club. The tournament begins on Friday morning.
