It's safe to say that Shane Lowry is one of Offaly's biggest fans.

The professional golfer comes from a famous Offaly footballing family. His father Brendan, won the All-Ireland title with the county in 1982.

According to the Irish Independent, Shane spoke to the football team earlier this weekend ahead of Sunday's game against Westmeath. The winners will meet Kildare in the semi-finals.

Such is Lowry's interest in the team, he was keeping an eye on their game against Longford, while competing in The Players Championship in Sawgrass.

Lowry will be in America when the game takes place this weekend in Mullingar. He is preparing to compete in his fourth US Open. Last year, he finished fourth.

The Clara native is not the first golf star to speak in a motivational capacity to GAA teams. Padraig Harrington and Paul McGinley have both previously worked with Dublin's footballers.
