League of Ireland record champions Shamrock Rovers will be going very far afield as they step up their pre-season preparations.

The Tallaght Stadium-based club are off to India to take part in a tournament, which includes the reserve teams of well-known European clubs like 1860 Munich, Watford, Rapid Bucuresti of Romania and Hertha Berlin.

Not only that but the 2016 Sait Nagjee Trophy has been inaugurated by Brazil and Barcelona legend Ronaldinho as brand ambassador.

Kicking off on Friday, the tournament ends on February 21st when the final takes place in Kerala State.

Pat Fenlon told Shamrock Rovers' official website that the idea came about after a conversation with an agent, saying: "An agent threw the idea at me and just rang me one day and asked would we be interested in playing in the tournament, we were very interested. It had gone a few days then it was confirmed to us that we were invited to play."
