Sevilla FC President Jose Maria Del Nido has been sentenced to seven years in prison for embezzlement.

The 56-year-old who was one of the main architects of Sevilla's domestic and European success between 2004 and 2010 was found guilty of embezzlement and perversion of justice.

The crimes relate to his time as a lawyer in Marbella where he was accused of embezzling money from public accounts with the former mayor of the city.

Del Nido had been found guilty in 2011 but appealed to the Supreme Court who have now upheld the sentence.

He has been in charge of Sevilla since May 2002 and in the intervening period los Rojiblancos won two UEFA Cups and two Copa del Reys.
