Russian whistleblower Yuliya Stepanova will not appeal her ban from the Rio Olympics to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).

She was previously banned from independent participation by the International Olympic Committee, along with all other Russian athletes who served a doping ban.

CAS overruled that decision, giving her the chance to lodge an appeal but the runner has declined to do so.

Stepanova helped expose state sponsored doping within Russia.

"We believe that in exercising this discretion to deny Yuliya a place in the competition, it sends a message that the World Anti-Doping Code and the values of Olympism are merely words on a page. As a result, we will not file an appeal to CAS," Stepanova and her husband Vitaly said in a statement.
