Two goals from Karl Sheppard, including the opener in the first minute of the game, helped the Leesiders to a 3-2 win over Sligo Rovers at Turners Cross.
Goals from Derek Prendergast and Jason Byrne helped Bohemians to a 2-1 win over Limerick at Dalymount.
Drogheda United came from behind to claim a 4-2 victory over managerless Bray Wanderers, while Galway United came away from the Brandywell with all three points after a 2-0 win over Derry City.
Earlier, the Dublin derby between St Patrick's Athletic and Shamrock Rovers was postponed because of a waterlogged pitch at Richmond Park and the fixture has now been rescheduled for Monday night at 7.45pm.
