Formula 1 Championship leader Nico Rosberg has won the European Grand Prix in Baku in Azerbaijan.

Mercedes team-mate Lewis Hamilton finished fifth, after starting tenth on the grid, following a difficult qualifying session on Saturday.

With Hamilton struggling after a run of two wins in Monaco and Canada to close the championship lead, his misfortune in Baku opened up the podium places for other challengers.

Ferrari's Sebastian Vettel finished second to stay third in the championship, while Force India's Sergio Perez took the final podium spot, just ahead of fourth-placed Kimi Raikkonen.

Rosberg's trouble-free round leaves him on 141 points in the driver's championship, 24 clear of Hamilton.

That gap had been cut down as far as nine points prior to today's race thanks to two wins in a row for the three-time world champion combined with poor results for Rosberg.
